Allama Iqbal was born in 1877 in Sialkot, Punjab, in British India. His parents were Muslim parents of Pashtun ethnicity. He continued his traditional education until the age of twelve, when he enrolled at the Sialkot Missionary School. Iqbal later attended the Scotch Mission College in Sialkot, before moving to Lahore in 1895 to attend the Government College Lahore. Iqbal graduated from the college in 1897 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy, English Literature and History.
Iqbal began writing poetry at an early age. His first poem, “Kulliyat-e-Iqbal”, was published in 1899. His poem “Asrar-e-Khudi” gained popularity and was published in 1915. Iqbal’s poetry often focuses on the spiritual and religious aspects of life. He is considered to be one of the most influential figures in Urdu literature.
